Clean Energy Will Help U.S. Ag

As Congress slowly moves forward on legislation to cut carbon pollution and put the nation on a cleaner and more sustainable energy path, farmers in Iowa and across the nation are being bombarded with conflicting messages about the likely costs.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), predicts rural America and the agricultural economy “will be some of the hardest-hit areas.”

Nebraska Republican senator and former USDA Secretary Mike Johanns called one Senate version of the legislation “an assault on agriculture.”

The American Farm Bureau Federation has launched a “Don’t Cap Our Future” campaign to derail the legislation.

On the other side, Roger Johnson, president of the National Farmers Union that supported the bill the House passed in June, says the doomsayers are all wet.
