Lorena Roque is a senior policy analyst on the Racial Equity and Justice team at American Progress, where her research focuses on the intersection between race and the economy. Roque has expertise in federal tax and budget issues, the racial wealth gap, and systems of inequality in the labor market. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, and Fast Company.

Prior to joining American Progress, Roque worked at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, focusing on federal tax policy and creating race methodologies with economic and tax data. She has interned for the Federal Fiscal team at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and the U.S. House of Representatives on the Financial Services Committee. Roque holds a master’s in public policy with a focus on economic policy from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Southwestern University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. part time at The George Washington University in public policy.
