Meg Benner is a senior consultant at the Center for American Progress. In this role, she works with the K-12 Education team on issues related to teacher policy, students with disabilities, and school finance. Benner is also an independent consultant that advises other education advocacy and policy organizations.
Previously, she was a senior director at Leadership for Educational Equity, a leadership development organization for Teach For America corps member and alumni. Benner worked on Capitol Hill as an education policy adviser for the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce, where she advised former ranking member Rep. George Miller (D-CA) and served as a legislative assistant for Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and former Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT). She started her career as a first- and second-grade teacher in New York City and Washington, D.C.
She received her undergraduate degree in American studies from Georgetown University and a Master of Science in teaching from Pace University.
