The Commonwealth of Virginia is a hub of economic growth, innovation, public service, arts, sciences, wildlife, and American historical preservation. Home to more than 8.8 million people—in addition to more than 800,000 small businesses, 670,000 veterans, hundreds of world-renowned museums, and more federal employees than nearly every other state—Virginia has long prided itself on a spirit of public service.
And yet, since the start of this second Trump administration, Virginians and the Virginia economy have been bearing a disproportionate brunt of destructive federal funding cuts, chaotic firings (and rehirings), and corruptible contract cancellations, all of which show no sign of slowing down and whose worst impacts are only beginning to materialize. Indeed, the painful results of this administration’s policies are being felt nationwide, but nowhere more acutely or personally than in Virginia, the birthplace of eight of Trump’s presidential predecessors.
