Director, Press Relations
Katie Peters is the Director of Press Relations at the Center for American Progress. At CAP, Katie works closely with policy staff to develop and implement communications plans that elevate the organization’s research, ideas, and experts. In addition to daily interaction with national reporters, trade press, and local media throughout the 50 states, Katie also helps strategize message development, op-ed placement, radio and TV bookings, and social media interaction.
Prior to joining CAP’s communications team, Katie led the communications team at First Focus, a national child advocacy organization. In the position, she was responsible for all aspects of the organization’s media outreach in addition to managing branding initiatives, website and publication development, and event planning.
Hailing from the great city of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Katie grew up a Cheesehead and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire. She migrated to Washington, D.C., and now lives in DuPont Circle with a fluffy white dog named Charlotte.
