Musk Should Not Let Trump on Twitter To Incite Violence and Subvert Democracy, CAP’s Adam Conner Says

Washington, D.C. — Today, Elon Musk said that he would restore former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account. In response, Adam Conner, vice president for Technology Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following comments:

Letting Donald Trump back onto Twitter has nothing to do with free speech everything to do with power. Musk claims it was “morally wrong” to ban Trump from the site but also says he would wouldn’t allow tweets that were “destructive to the world.” If using Twitter to incite violence, subvert our democracy, and overturn fair elections isn’t morally wrong and destructive to the world, then I’m not sure what is. If Musk allows Trump to return, he’s showing exactly what kind of behavior he wants more of on Twitter.
