Sabina Dewan is a Senior Fellow at American Progress. Formerly the Director of Globalization and International Employment at American Progress, Sabina works on economic issues ranging from the impact of globalization on employment to the role of trade, foreign assistance, and monetary policies in raising living standards around the globe. Sabina’s research examines the nexus between economic opportunity and economic growth, development, and stability. She directed American Progress’s Just Jobs Program, which advocates for policies that promote good jobs to boost global aggregate demand and level the competitive playing field. Together with founder John Podesta, Sabina is spinning this program out of American Progress to form a new entity: JustJobs Network Inc.
Prior to joining American Progress, Sabina worked at the International Labour Organization, or ILO, in Geneva, Switzerland, where she managed various projects promoting the ILO’s decent work agenda within the context of globalization and international development. She has consulted on a variety of projects for institutions including the ILO Regional Office in Thailand, the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative, and the directorate-general on employment, social affairs, and equal opportunities of the European Commission. Sabina has an advanced master’s degree in quantitative studies from the Catholic University of Brussels, and a second master’s degree in public policy from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a frequent media contributor, having appeared on outlets such as CNBC, BBC, and Al-Jazeera. Sabina is fluent in Hindi.
