Front-line advocates of the America the Beautiful for All Coalition came to Washington, D.C., to meet with elected officials to support a just and equitable implementation of President Joe Biden’s America the Beautiful initiative. The coalition’s goals? To protect 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030, and to ensure that at least 40 percent of the investments of the America the Beautiful initiative are made in communities of color and front-line communities that have historically seen little to no investment in conservation or equitable access to nature. Hekia Bodwitch, policy director of the conservation organization Tuleyome, spent the day talking about the importance of the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument and Tribal co-management and co-stewardship.
