STATEMENT: Neera Tanden on Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting

Washington, D.C.—Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement in response to the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:

This has been a trying week in America. Today’s horrific shooting at the Tree of Life Congregation synagogue in Pittsburgh is the third in a series of hate-filled events, from the shooting at a Kentucky grocery store to the numerous pipe bombs sent across the country. At a time like this, we would normally look to our president for counsel, guidance, and healing. In the absence of that, it is incumbent on each and every decent American to stand up and speak out against these heinous acts. Our hearts are with the victims and our prayer is that we can rise above this hate as a nation.
