STATEMENT: Director Comey Must Testify to Congress about Trump’s Potential Obstruction of Justice, Says CAP’s Neera Tanden

Washington, D.C. Center for American Progress President and CEO Neera Tanden issued the following statement on news reports of a memo written by former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey outlining a conversation with President Donald Trump in which the president asked Comey to cease the FBI investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia.

This latest news—if confirmed—drives home the need for a special prosecutor who has the independence to follow the evidence wherever it may lead. Former FBI Director Comey should testify in front of Congress and the American people about this potential obstruction of justice.
