STATEMENT: CAP Applauds Julie Su’s Nomination as Secretary of Labor

Washington, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Julie Su as the next secretary of labor. Following the announcement, Mara Rudman, executive vice president for policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

Julie Su has spent her lifetime fighting for working people as a civil rights attorney; advocate; and, most recently, as deputy secretary of labor. Since the early days of the Biden administration, she has been an instrumental part of rebuilding a stronger, more inclusive economy that centers the communities and people who have been left behind. At this crucial moment when the infrastructure bill, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act are transforming from legislative text into roads, bridges, factories, and jobs, I can think of no one better to ensure that worker rights are at the heart of the new economy we are building.
