Washington, D.C. — Former Vice President Al Gore will deliver remarks in Bonn, Germany, at noon Central European Time on Saturday, November 11, at an event on the importance of sustaining U.S. engagement in climate finance. Gore and other headliners at the event—including Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D-VA)—will be speaking at the U.S. Climate Action Center during the U.N. conference on climate change.
Since the Trump administration announced its intention to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement, there has been an unprecedented wave of nonfederal leaders across the country—including state, city, and private-sector actors—committing to continue U.S. climate progress.
To date, these efforts have tended to focus on domestic emissions reductions. However, U.S. nonfederal actors are increasingly considering ways to mobilize finance for clean energy and climate preparedness—particularly for the most vulnerable populations—as a means to fully advance the goals of the Paris Agreement.
This event will bring together U.S. climate leaders to discuss opportunities for the United States to remain engaged in climate finance. It is sponsored by the Center for American Progress, the World Resources Institute, CDP, and Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative (MRCTI).
The event will be livestreamed here.
