Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress announced today that Daniella Gibbs Léger has been named Senior Vice President for Communications and Strategy and that Katie Peters will serve as Managing Director of Communications. Léger and Peters will lead CAP’s communications initiatives, a responsibility previously held by Andrea Purse, who departed the organization earlier this week to become Director of Broadcast Media at the White House.
“I am excited to announce that Daniella and Katie will be taking the helm of CAP’s media relations and communications initiatives,” said CAP President Neera Tanden. “Innovative communications strategies have always been instrumental to CAP’s ability to promote progressive ideas and values. As veteran CAP communications experts, I know Daniella and Katie are uniquely suited to continue this important work, and I look forward to working with them as leaders within our organization. Andrea will be greatly missed, but I know that the dedication and intelligence that she has shown at CAP will be invaluable to the White House.”
Léger, a former Obama administration official, most recently served as Senior Vice President for the American Values & New Communities initiative at CAP, where her work focused on the intersection of politics, race, demographic change, religion, and values. Prior to joining CAP, Daniella served as a special assistant to the president and director of message events in the Obama administration. In this role, she was responsible for helping plan and execute the president’s official domestic events. She has also previously served as the deputy director of communications at the Democratic National Committee and worked at the National Newspaper Publishers Association and Sony Music.
Peters has been a member of CAP’s media relations team for the past three years, previously serving as Director of Press Relations. In this capacity, she worked closely with policy staff to respond to breaking news and develop communications plans that elevate the organization’s research, experts, and ideas. Prior to joining CAP’s press team, Katie led communications strategy at First Focus, a national child advocacy organization.
