Washington, D.C. — The Trump administration is set to decide in the near term about whether the United States should withdraw from the Paris Agreement. It appears that two factions have emerged, with chief strategist Steve Bannon and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt arguing for withdrawal; Ivanka Trump, meanwhile, has been the main proponent of remaining in the global climate pact. Senior adviser Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and Secretary of Energy Rick Perry are also said to favor sticking with the agreement. Crucial meetings are expected this week, with President Donald Trump stating at a recent rally that he expects to make an announcement shortly.

The Center for American Progress will host a press call featuring CAP Founder and Board Member John Podesta; Brian Deese, former senior adviser to President Barack Obama; former U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern; Mindy S. Lubber, CEO and president of Ceres; and Sue Biniaz, former State Department deputy legal adviser to discuss why the best deal for the United States is to remain in the Paris climate agreement.
