EVENT ADVISORY: CAP Launches Quality Education Online Events Series, Inaugural Event To Gather Educators To Discuss Transition to Virtual Schooling

Washington, D.C. — School closures across the country due to the coronavirus outbreak have underscored the importance of public education, while also exposing the glaring inequities in the public education system. As schools prepare to reopen, the federal government, as well as state and local officials, should seize on this moment to push for a new education agenda, rooted in the idea of opportunity for all, with equity in access at its center.

Today, the Center for American Progress is announcing the launch of a five-week events series—the Ensuring a Quality Education for Every Child web series—exploring the five key issue areas that a new public education agenda should include:

May 6: Managing the Transition to Virtual Schooling

May 13: A Federal Right to Education: From Brown to Rodriguez and What Lies Ahead

May 20: Preparing K-8 Students for the Future of Work

May 27: Beyond the Talking Points: Charter School Policy and Equity

June 3: The Need for Federal Investment in K-12 Public Schools Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic
