CAP’s Jamila Taylor on House Republicans’ Latest Attack on Women’s Health

Washington, D.C. — Jamila Taylor, senior fellow for the Women’s Initiative at CAP, released the following statement on the U.S. House vote to move a 20-week abortion ban:

House Republicans are continuing their obsession with undermining a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions by forcing a vote on a 20-abortion week ban. They are also undermining the expertise of doctors and other health care providers to push a bill rejected by the medical community.

Meanwhile, both the House and Senate are showing an astounding lack of leadership and disregard for human life in other priorities, including their failure to take up sensible gun regulation after the horrific tragedy in Las Vegas; put forth a budget that truly values basic living standards; and reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in a timely manner.

It’s abundantly clear that Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) and Republican leaders in the House would rather spend their time interfering in women’s personal decisions and teeing up a massive tax cut for millionaires and corporations rather than truly helping working families—especially women—get ahead.
