Since his inauguration on January 20, President Donald Trump has systematically undermined the foundations of America’s strength in the world, upending long-standing security alliances, trade partnerships, and foreign assistance programs, while his foreign policy has harmed Americans’ security and prosperity. Now, as many partners and allies around the world no longer view the United States as reliable, U.S. leaders must contend with the damage that Trump continues to cause and outline a new vision of America’s role in a world that will continue to change over the next years.
To address the harms of Trump’s foreign policy and articulate an alternative vision for American leadership in the world, please join the Center for American Progress as we welcome Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), a leading foreign policy voice in Congress. Whether in his role on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee or in town halls across the country, Sen. Murphy has demonstrated to the American people what principled leadership looks like at home and around the world. The conversation will be moderated by CAP President and CEO Neera Tanden. It is the third event in CAP’s series, “What’s Next: Conversations on the Path Forward,” which will bring leaders to CAP to offer ideas on how to respond to this moment.
