It’s time to celebrate some progressive wins of 2023. This year saw many achievements across numerous issue areas, including a breakthrough in health care with the reduction of drug prices, particularly the affordability of insulin, and the decision allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. The state of Minnesota took a big step by providing legal protection for those seeking gender-affirming care, while New Jersey emerged as a safe haven for transgender individuals. Environmental conservation also saw progress with the designation of 1 million acres of public land around the Grand Canyon as a new national monument and the decision to move forward with the designation of the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary. Simultaneously, the nation experienced robust job growth, with wages consistently outpacing inflation since 2021. U.S. communities have become safer, with a red flag law passed in Michigan, and Washington became the 10th state to ban semiautomatic rifles. Among other wins, the nation also saw the expansion of voting rights and increased accessibility to the ballot box.
