Summary
American Progress is seeking a Legal Assistant for regulatory compliance who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities include maintaining regulatory compliance and filings as required by federal, state, and local law; supporting board operations; managing daily legal workflows; tracking contracts and agreements; and monitoring requests for vetting. This role is ideal for a detailed-oriented and highly organized professional who is seeking to pursue law school in the future.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Legal Counsel with all aspects of regulatory compliance, filings, monitoring, and renewals, such as state lobbying filings, state charitable registrations, district and state tax, and occupation, building, and business licenses and registrations.
- Assist in reviewing and testing compliance procedures, including implementing and executing a compliance testing program.
- Provide administrative support for board activities, including meeting planning, board book preparation, and taking and maintaining accurate meeting minutes.
- In coordination with other Legal Assistants, manage department workflows to ensure incoming requests are completed and deadlines are communicated to Legal Counsel.
- Track the review, approval, and execution of all contracts and agreements.
- Maintain Senior Fellow registry and contract manifest.
- Monitor requests for vetting and ensure that all requests are addressed in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- One to two years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work on diverse topics and balance multiple projects at once.
- Positive attitude, a sense of humor, and a team-oriented ethic.
