Washington, D.C. — Today, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, or HELP, Committee approved the nomination of John B. King Jr. to serve as the next U.S. secretary of education. Carmel Martin, Executive Vice President for Policy at the Center for American Progress, released the following statement:
John King’s lifetime of leadership in education has prepared him well to serve as the next U.S. secretary of education. As acting secretary since the beginning of this year, it is evident that he has an unwavering commitment to ensuring that all students—especially those from underserved communities—receive a quality education. The Senate HELP Committee has acted quickly and decisively by approving his nomination today, and the full Senate should follow suit in short order.
