Washington, D.C. — Today, the Trump administration released its final version of the so-called Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule, a repeal of the Obama-era Clean Power Plan (CPP). While the CPP would have fought climate change by reducing carbon pollution from power plants, the ACE rule fails spectacularly in achieving that goal. In response, Christy Goldfuss, senior vice president for Energy and Environment at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
The dirty power scam finalized today fails to take action on climate change and would instead increase the pollution that endangers millions of Americans with asthma and other lung conditions. After a year of record-breaking hurricanes, extreme wildfires, and devastating floods, it is clearer every day that we cannot delay action on climate change. Yet President Donald Trump and his EPA administrator, Andrew Wheeler, have done everything they can to reverse climate action and remain more focused on doing favors for their coal company friends than protecting the public. Just this year, Trump and Wheeler plan to undo protections for toxic air pollution, withdraw the United States from its climate commitments under the Paris agreement, and roll back the commonsense clean car standards. It’s time for this administration to listen to the voices of the future demanding action on this crisis and moving our country toward a 100 percent clean energy economy instead of siding with polluters and the voices of the past.
