STATEMENT: The American People Must Come Before MAGA Extremism, says CAP’s Patrick Gaspard

Washington, D.C. — On Saturday, September 30, 2023, Congress averted a government shutdown and passed a continuing resolution that will keep the government running and continue its essential duties through November 17. Patrick Gaspard, president and chief executive officer of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

The American people must come before MAGA extremism. MAGA extremists in the House majority pushed the nation to the brink of a crisis that would have shuttered preschool centers, undermined public health, and left millions of federal workers and military members without pay. And, unless Congress steps up and passes full-year spending bills that honor the bipartisan budget deal agreed to months ago, the American people are at risk of being in this position again in a matter of weeks.
