STATEMENT: Patrick Gaspard Mourns the Loss of Tom Conway

Washington D.C. — Following the announcement of USW International President Tom Conway’s passing, Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

Tom Conway was a fearless leader of United Steelworkers and always found innovative ways to bring more people into the labor movement. His deep union roots and unwavering commitment to fight for workers and their families led to him delivering historic wins for workers in industries throughout the American economy, from steel mills across North America to the recent unionization vote at Blue Bird electric school bus manufacturing plant in Georgia.

Tom will be remembered for his strategic actions to deliver results for USW members, strengthen the labor movement, and build the middle class. Tom was also fiercely kind, a master strategist, and one of the best co-conspirators around. I am proud to call him a friend. I’ll be keeping Tom Conway’s family, friends, and colleagues in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
