Washington, D.C. — After the Senate voted 50-49 along partisan lines today to confirm Andrew Oldham to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, Jake Faleschini, director of the Federal Courts Program at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Andrew Oldham is yet another young right-wing firebrand who has spent his career pushing a damaging, partisan agenda hostile to immigrants, abortion rights, workers, consumers, and the environment. He led Texas’ effort against protecting immigrant Dreamers who came into the country as children, and he helped spearhead efforts to strike down the Affordable Care Act. As the fight against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh takes center stage, the Senate should refuse to let President Donald Trump keep packing the lower courts with narrow-minded elitists who will tilt our justice system toward special interests.
