Washington, D.C. — In response to the introduction of a legislative framework with an ambitious climate plan that would ensure the United States reaches a 100 percent clean economy by 2050, Center for American Progress Senior Vice President for Energy and Environment Policy Christy Goldfuss issued the following statement:
Disasters like the unprecedented and devastating wildfires in Australia show that our climate crisis cannot be solved with piecemeal solutions on the margins of change. We must act to protect our homes, our families, our communities—and our very way of life on this planet. For the first time in a decade, Congress will debate comprehensive climate legislation and show the leadership that this moment demands. We thank House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairmen Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Paul Tonko (D-NY), and Bobby Rush (D-IL) as they take this significant and historic step forward to address climate change and lead us to a 100 percent clean future.
