Washington, D.C. — Today, Darren Walker announced that he will step down as the president of the Ford Foundation. Following the announcement, Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Darren Walker is a transformational leader, who created a new form of 21st-century philanthropy that centers people and communities as the drivers of social change. We felt this at CAP, where Darren and Ford were instrumental to creating the Disability Justice Initiative, the first disability program at a D.C. think tank. Their support has also been key to our reproductive justice, labor, structural reform, and many other efforts to create a more equitable and just country over the years. CAP, philanthropy, and the broader social change movement are the better for Darren’s empathetic and strategic leadership.
