Washington, D.C. — As the Senate prepares to vote on the nomination of Chad Readler for a seat on the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Jake Faleschini, director of the Federal Courts Program at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
The Senate should not hand a lifetime appointment to a right-wing extremist like Chad Readler, who has put partisan political goals before the rule of law. While at the Department of Justice, he not only refused to defend the Affordable Care Act, but he actively worked in court to try to eliminate protections for millions of Americans with preexisting conditions. He also played a key role in defending and implementing some of the Trump administration’s most racist, xenophobic, and authoritarian policies. We need fair-minded judges, not partisans in robes who are only focused on achieving political goals through the courts.
