STATEMENT: CAP’s Rudy deLeon on the Passing of John Glenn

Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress mourns the death and celebrates the life of John Glenn, a true American hero who served his country for 46 years as a Marine fighter pilot, NASA astronaut, and U.S. senator from Ohio. Rudy deLeon, CAP Senior Fellow, issued the following statement:

In his nearly five decades of public service as a fighter pilot, astronaut, and senator, John Glenn embodied the best America has to offer itself and the world. The United States has lost a hero whose life reminds Americans what they can accomplish when they dedicate themselves to causes larger than themselves. John Glenn’s courage, optimism, and commitment to public service will be missed.
