STATEMENT: CAP’s Ben Olinsky Praises Senate Confirmation of Alvaro Bedoya to the FTC

Washington, D.C. — After the Senate voted to confirm Alvaro Bedoya to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Ben Olinsky, senior vice president of Structural Reform and Governance and a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

American consumers now have a tremendous champion at the FTC who is committed to fighting for privacy, civil rights, and accountability. Alvaro Bedoya is also an advocate for communities of color and others who are disproportionately harmed by surveillance and data abuse. I know from my years working with Alvaro that he is a brilliant scholar and a relentless public servant. The FTC and the American people are lucky to have him as the agency tackles a range of urgent competition and consumer protection challenges. And with the FTC now fully staffed, the Senate must move swiftly to confirm President Joe Biden’s fifth nominee to the Federal Communications Commission and ensure that the nation’s critical telecommunications issues are not forgotten.
