STATEMENT: CAP Supports House and Senate Resolutions Condemning White House Adviser Stephen Miller
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) introduced resolutions in the House of Representatives and the Senate condemning the senior adviser to the president Stephen Miller for his trafficking in bigotry, hatred, and divisive political rhetoric and policies, demanding his immediate resignation.
Winnie Stachelberg, executive vice president for External Affairs at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
Bigotry and hate have no place in our country, especially in policies that affect the livelihood of all Americans. Stephen Miller has not only cultivated relationships with white supremacists but also supported and encouraged their messages in key national policy issues. Miller has been the mastermind behind the despicable family separation policy, attempts to rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and the public charge rule. He also crafted each of the Muslim bans, including the most recent expansion. Miller’s harmful influence goes against our values of welcoming immigrants, upholding religious freedom, and respecting the dignity and worth of all people. Miller must resign immediately, and if he doesn’t, he ought to be removed.
