STATEMENT: CAP President Neera Tanden on Holocaust Remembrance Day

Washington, D.C. — Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day:

Today, we mourn all the innocent men, women, and children who lost their lives during one of the cruelest and most evil events in human history. Six million Jews were systematically murdered during the Holocaust; another five million people were senselessly killed on the basis of their race, sexuality, or political or religious beliefs. We hold a solemn responsibility to each of these victims to always remember their suffering and to never forget the destructive potential of prejudice and bigotry.

On this Yom Hashoah, we honor the memory of all those who died, all those who survived, and all those who resisted and fought against the Nazi regime. I hope that people of all backgrounds can unite around their strength and courage to recommit ourselves toward eliminating hatred and intolerance from our world.
