Washington, D.C. — Today, the Biden administration announced its Buy Clean policy, which directs federal agencies to buy low-emissions steel, concrete, asphalt, and flat glass. The policy is a major step toward decarbonizing the U.S. industrial sector and reducing emissions. In response, Mike Williams, a senior fellow in the Energy and Environment Policy department at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:
This is a transformational move that will help reduce climate emissions and create good jobs for American workers. Once again, the Biden administration is leading the way on climate change, using the government’s vast purchasing power to Buy Clean and spur development of low-carbon construction materials. This plan will have a ripple effect across the nation to encourage innovation and boost job growth in clean manufacturing.
