RELEASE: Trump’s Hawkish Choices of Pompeo, Bolton Could Push the Country to War, CAP Analysis Says

Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s hawkish choices for what looks like a new war Cabinet risk pushing the United States on a dangerous path toward devastating wars, according to a new analysis from the Center for American Progress.

To fill the position of America’s top diplomat, President Trump has chosen CIA Director Mike Pompeo, a man who notoriously prefers regime change to diplomacy. His new national security adviser, John Bolton, was one of the principle architects and defenders of the Iraq War. Bolton now wants to abolish the Iran nuclear deal and appears eager to launch preventive military strikes against North Korea.

Bolton and Pompeo’s clear and strong preference for military action should be even more alarming considering their record of politicizing intelligence on these and other threats, the column says. These hawkish officials will enable the worst instincts of an already erratic and reckless president.

By nominating Pompeo and appointing Bolton, President Trump has chosen a path that could lead to war. The United States—and the world—can’t afford to take that risk.
