RELEASE: On “Thinking CAP,” Sen. Al Franken Calls Out Trump’s Broken Promises on Medicaid

Washington D.C. — Today on CAP’s new podcast “Thinking CAP,” Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) sits down with co-hosts Michele Jawando and Igor Volsky to discuss his transition from comedy to politics, health care, and his new book Al Franken: Giant of the Senate. In conversation about the Senate’s health care bill, Sen. Franken brought up Trump’s campaign promise to not cut Medicaid in comparison with the drastic cuts to the program included in the Senate’s Better Care Reconciliation Act and the House of Representatives’ American Health Care Act.

“I don’t think he tells the truth all the time,“ said Sen. Franken of Trump on the podcast. “You know, he said ‘I’m not going to cut Medicaid’; he said it over and over again. He said that’s what separated him from the other candidates. ‘I don’t care if it hurts me, I’m not going to cut Medicaid.’ That’s why if he says I know [the Trumpcare bill] well, we shouldn’t necessarily just say ‘Oh I guess he knows this really well.”

Franken joined Jawando and Volsky for the interview yesterday evening just a few blocks from the Capitol, where protesters flooded for the March to Save Our Care to oppose Republicans’ plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The episode is the podcast’s 11th in the series launched in early May.

The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud,  StitcherGoogle Play, and on CAP’s website.
