RELEASE: New 50-State Interactive Details What Is at Stake in Health Care Repeal Lawsuit

Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that it will take up a lawsuit brought by the Trump administration and 18 Republican state attorneys general challenging the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If the Supreme Court sustains the lower court’s ruling, about 20 million Americans could lose coverage and 135 million Americans with preexisting conditions could lose essential protections. Following today’s announcement, the Center for American Progress released a new interactive that lays out what is at stake in all 50 states and the District of Columbia if the ACA were repealed.

“Repealing the ACA with no replacement plan to protect Americans’ health care would have devastating consequences for the health and financial security of millions of families in every single state across the country,” said Maura Calsyn, managing director of Health Policy at the Center for American Progress. “This strategy was rejected by Congress and voters at the ballot box in November 2018. If the administration was serious about protecting the American people’s health care, they’d drop their lawsuit once and for all.”
