Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress named Andres Vinelli as the new vice president of Economic Policy at the organization. In this role, Dr. Vinelli will lead CAP’s efforts to develop and further an economic policy agenda that will build a more equitable economy to improve the lives of all people. He will lead a team of economists, analysts, and researchers who work on fiscal, labor, competition, infrastructure, macroeconomic research, and workforce development policy. Marc Jarsulic, who has led CAP’s economic policy program for the past six years, will continue to work with the program as its chief economist and as a senior fellow.
Dr. Vinelli comes to CAP after serving as chief economist for two world-class regulatory organizations, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. In both of these positions he conducted original research, analysis, and advocacy in building economic, business intelligence, risk assessment, and financial modeling programs. He is also an adjunct professor at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Andres to CAP,” said Neera Tanden, president and CEO of CAP. “Andres is an expert in financial markets, regulation, and economics and has a deep background in both research and advocacy. As the United States moves through this era of profound economic insecurity, I can think of no better person to guide CAP’s Economic Policy program.”
Dr. Vinelli earned his B.A. in economics from Universidad de San Andrés and his master’s degree and Ph.D. in public policy from Harvard University. His first day at CAP will be November 4, 2019. Dr. Vinelli is fluent in English, Spanish and French.
