RELEASE: 6 Things President Trump Got Wrong When Decimating American’s National Monuments

Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump got a lot wrong when he tried to justify his decision to eliminate huge portions of the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. A new column from the Center for American Progress fact checks six of the biggest whoppers.

No matter how Trump tries to spin it, his action will remove 2 million acres from protection—the largest revocation of protected land in U.S. history. It will open these historic and scenic treasures to oil drilling, coal mining, uranium extraction, and other industrial activities.

“This action could cause widespread loss of wildlife habitat, destroy Native American archeological sites, and cause economic harm to local businesses,” said Jenny Rowland, research and advocacy manager for Public Lands at the Center for American Progress and co-author of the column.
