Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress hosted a call on Friday, July 10 following the conclusion of the latest hearing before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in the legal battle over the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s deferred action directives, known as the expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, expansion and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans, or DAPA. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX), Washington State Solicitor General Noah Purcell, National Immigration Law Center’s, or NILC’s, Executive Director Marielena Hincapié, and Center for American Progress’ Executive Vice President for Policy Carmel Martin reviewed the hearing and offered insights into the status of the lawsuit. They also discussed the results of a new nationwide survey of DACA recipients—conducted by NILC, CAP, and Tom K. Wong of the University of California, San Diego—that illustrates the program’s impact.
