Los Angeles, CA – John Podesta, President of the Center for American Progress will address the UCLA Anderson Forecast Conference tomorrow on the dangers and opportunities presented to the United States by the global energy crisis.
Lacking a firm commitment to renewable energy, Podesta will argue that the United States continues to cede market opportunities to its foreign competitors; and continues to put its citizens in danger by failing to both confront climate change and the security risks stemming from our foreign oil dependency. At the same time, however, he will point to California’s individual efforts to build a robust, domestic renewable energy industry through its pioneering technology sector and through innovative measures such as Proposition 87. Putting firm federal policies in place, Podesta will conclude that the United States can simultaneously enhance California’s efforts and take back control of our country’s own energy future.
