"We are pleased that the president’s proposed energy budget would continue to increase investments in the clean-energy technologies of the future, while closing tax loopholes for profit making big oil companies. It also assumes a global warming pollution reduction system that would return the value of pollution permits to ratepayers or invest them in clean energy. Unfortunately, the president also proposes to triple loan guarantees for nuclear power plants, which leaves taxpayers liable for a multibillion tab should these projects default on their loans. This is a high-risk, low-reward proposal that we cannot afford right now. Congressional enactment of a global warming pollution reduction program is the surest way to boost nuclear power."
