PRESS CALL ADVISORY: Voting Experts Discuss Roadblocks Voters Face in the Key States of WI, OH, NC, AZ, PA, and FL

Washington, D.C. — As we get closer to Election Day and as more states open early voting periods, the Center for American Progress is bringing together voting rights experts for a press conference on Thursday, October 27, 12:30 p.m. EST to discuss potential roadblocks voters in key states could face at the polls this year and solutions that should be implemented to ensure that every eligible voter can cast a ballot that is counted.

Ahead of November 8, CAP has released a series of issues briefs on preventing problems at the polls, which presents useable research on voting rights and voter access in Wisconsin, Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Arizona, and Pennsylvania and highlights the issues that may prevent eligible Americans from being able to cast a ballot. The series examines voter intimidation laws and history, the rates of use and rejection of provisional ballots, new voting restrictions, purges of registered voters, and wait times, among other issues.

The speakers on Thursday’s call will address how Ohio is remedying the impact on voters who have been illegally purged; the state of voter access in North Carolina after one of the most far-reaching voter suppression laws in the country was struck down; Wisconsin’s current level of compliance with the court orders to provide voter ID; and Pennsylvania’s preparation to protect voting rights from harassment and intimidation.
