Washington, D.C. — On Monday, February 10, the Center for American Progress with host Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) for a conversation, moderated by Tom Perriello, on his new memoir and the issues it explores. My Country, ‘Tis of Thee contains personal stories and recollections, as well as deeply felt insights on the ever-changing face of America: his “sweet land of liberty.”
Rep. Ellison was the first Muslim elected to Congress. That wasn’t why he ran, however. Quite simply, he entered politics because he wanted to make a difference—to contribute to the future of his children, his community, and his country. Since being elected in 2007, Rep. Ellison strongly defended civil and human rights and helped raise awareness and understanding of the diversity and contributions of American Muslim communities.
Copies of My Country, ’Tis of Thee will be available for purchase at the event.
