Who’s Afraid of North Korea?

Author Michael Fuchs examines President Trump's lack of faith in the United States' ability to deter North Korea.

In taking on the threat posed by North Korea, President Donald Trump needs to have a little more confidence in America.

The Trump administration is in an awful hurry to make a case for possible military action against North Korea. National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster believes that Kim Jong Un is not rational and therefore cannot be deterred. CIA Director Mike Pompeo claims that North Korea could have the ability to reach the continental United States with a nuclear-tipped Intercontinental Ballistic Missile within a “handful of months.” The Trump administration wants the American people to believe that once North Korea gains a fully operational ICBM capability, Kim Jong Un will launch it against the United States. “Time is running out,” according to McMaster.
