“Other countries have social safety nets. The U.S. has women.”
Jessica Calarco coined this axiom synthesizing America’s history of placing necessary and often uncompensated responsibilities on women. These phenomena have only accelerated since January 2025. Generations of hard-won progress and success for and by women are being set back by President Donald Trump’s administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) through the illegal impoundment of funds—many of which primarily benefit women. Furthermore, the Trump administration is making it harder for women to vote, access health care, and make the most personal decisions about forming a family. There is no avenue of American life safe from policies intended to disproportionately harm and hinder women’s prosperity.
Please join the Center for American Progress to hear the stories of American women from across industries, states, and experiences as they navigate the disruption and targeted chaos of the Trump administration’s actions, choices, appointments, and policies that are harming women.
