The Trump administration’s reckless and dangerous national security agenda has cost lives around the world and threatened our democracy here at home. It has culminated in a disastrous war in the Middle East. The administration has broken national security agencies, corrupting them to serve political ends rather than protect Americans’ safety and interests. It is weaponizing national security by exploiting long-standing vulnerabilities in our policies, laws, and institutions.
A future administration and Congress must reform and rebuild our national security institutions, not only to address the abuses of the Trump administration, but also to correct for past failures to safeguard our democracy and meet the security challenges of tomorrow.
