The Future of Teacher Prep: A Conversation with Educators and Other Experts

Center for American Progress
2:00 - 3:30 PM EDT

In late March, President Donald Trump signed a bill scrapping Obama-era teacher preparation regulations, which required states to rate their programs annually based on several criteria. Without these regulations, many stakeholders are left wondering: What’s next for teacher prep? Please join the Center for American Progress, Hope Street Group, and an esteemed panel of educators and other experts to discuss the future of teacher preparation and how educators can enhance preparation for the next generation of teachers.

During this event, our panelists will discuss a forthcoming publication from Hope Street Group’s National Teacher Fellows, or NTFs: Teaming Up: Educators Enhance Teacher Prep. This new report builds on research from On Deck: Preparing the Next Generation of Teachers and includes additional teacher preparation research; program and assessment design; the development of institutional and state policy; and district-based improvements to teacher recruitment, induction, and retention.

Hope Street Group, or HSG, is a national organization that works to ensure every American will have access to tools and options leading to economic opportunity and prosperity. In addition to the National Teacher Fellowship, HSG operates teacher fellowships in Hawaii, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee, and is currently recruiting its first cohorts in Arizona and Utah.
