The United States has made remarkable strides over the past seven years to address climate change, both domestically and internationally. Yet there is widespread agreement that more must be done to reduce pollution and increase resilience to an already changing climate.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture—as a science-based agency with strong working ties to the agriculture and forestry sectors—occupies a unique position in the nation’s efforts to respond to climate change. The department is creating innovative strategies and platforms to reduce pollution while also assisting efforts to adapt to the intensifying effects of climate change such as drought, wildfires, extreme temperatures, and increased occurrences of pests. Its efforts to reduce emissions through sustainable and measurable practices will help meet national climate commitments, secure the nation’s food supply, and support various agricultural and forestry industries.
