In the year 2023, Turkey will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s founding of the modern republic. To mark the occasion, the government is embarking on an ambitious policy agenda aimed at making Turkey one of the world’s top-10 economies. But achieving this goal will require balancing political, economic, and security concerns with the dreams and aspirations of a nation of 80 million people. This minidocumentary explores the challenges and opportunities Turkey faces in the coming years through the everyday lives of its people.

Turkey 2023 is a new project by the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C., the Istanbul Policy Center in Turkey, and the Istituto di Affari Internazionale in Rome to outline a long-term prosperity vision for Turkey and explore its role in the world. Funding provided by Stiftung Mercator.
