Ratify Key Human Rights Treaties

The fact that the United States, along with Somalia, remains one of only two countries in the world not to have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, or CRC, reinforces the notion that the United States is badly out of step with the rest of the globe.

Now that the Supreme Court has removed one of the main obstacles to ratification by ruling unconstitutional the execution of juveniles, there is even less reason not to ratify the treaty. Congress should make ratification of CRC and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women—another treaty with wide international support—a priority.
