Abortion legalization in the United States has had a positive effect on women’s advancements and gender justice, from educational attainment to labor force participation. In fact, studies have shown that being denied an abortion increases household poverty, lowers a woman’s credit score, increases their debt burden, and increases the number of their negative public financial records, such as bankruptcies and evictions. It is also clear that these costs are not only felt by women but also ripple across our economy.
